New Beastie Boys Album & Videos

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

The Beastie Boys and Biz Markie

The Beastie Boys are preparing to release their next album next month, and have released two music videos depicting the boys in a funky jam session. I instantly fell in love with the track from the first video I watched for “Off the Grid”, however I have to admit I was a tad disappointed when they didn’t come with any rhymes. A little research reveals that the album, titled The Mix-Up, will be an instrumental album (like the In Sound From Way Out) but will be redone with vocal portions by other artists at a later time.

Good to know that there will be at least some alternatives to Cuuuuuuurtis and the whole Courtesy, Curtis baloney. Hit the jump for some videos.

The Hip-Hop Sgt. Pepper’s Cover Art

The Hip-Hop Sgt. Pepper's Cover Art

A while back I wrote about my 25 Desert Island Records, in the process comparing Common’s Be to The Beatle’s Abbey Road. Later on in the week, I was quite surprised to see this gem of an album cover surface in my hip-hop bloggery; an elaborate reproduction of the The Beatles original Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover garnished with hip-hop legends. DK compiles his own list of 20 favorite hip-hop albums, and provides insight into the process of its creation.

See the original cover, or check DKPresents out.

Dennis Cole’s Born Day

Ghostface Killah AKA Dennis Cole

On May 9th, 1970, Dennis Cole, the man who would become the Ghostface Killah, was born. I celebrated on this day by listening to Ironman and Supreme Clientele from the top down.

n****s choke off my second hand smoke lifted/
everyday is like my birthday I’m mad gifted

To make things better, I found this awesome interview posted on OhWord.com. This is the realest interview I’ve ever heard from any artist, and the fact that it comes from Ghost Deini just makes it that much cooler. Ghost comes from the heart for twenty minutes about his love of soul music, hanging with the Delfonics in highway shootouts, crying on wax, his next album and why Wu-Tang is for the babies.
