All this gloom and doom has gotten a little out of hand. People are arguing about whether the iPad will change computing and the world as we know it. Other people are put off by the media hype outpouring of enthusiasm today for a device that almost no one has ever touched or seen in daily life. The thing is, there are millions of us that have already used iPads, by way of iPhone. That’s why we want a bigger screen so bad.

I just want to read more books.

I was on the verge of buying a Kindle for reading when the iPad’s existence was verified. I love using the Kindle app and Instapaper for iPhone. Maybe iBooks will be better, maybe not. Either way, I am looking forward to reading in an even more enjoyable way than I have been reading for the last three years on my iPhone.

So call me crazy, call me cuckoo. Call me Mr. Almost-Was-Gunna-Buy-A-$489-Kindle. I’m that nut job.

(Plus, the iPad does a bit more than just read books, and that’ll be just swell.)
