- I was introduced to The Shins while I was living on an island. Plus, lead singer James Mercer is from Oahu so he’d already be there to sing along. Coincidence? I think not.
- The Shins songs are fun/peppy, sometimes sad, but always nice to sing. The music is delightful but deceptively simple, often complexly orchestrated with various instrumentation. The erudite lyrics are guaranteed to improve vocabulary. (Cuz it’d be cool to wile away your days on a desert island learning new words and how to play instruments.)
- Turn a Square may have the coolest lyrics ever in a walking bass groove. It’s like Springtime in a meadow of cool.
- . No doy.
I am fairly convinced The Shins are my perfect desert island music.
