Is Dropbox better than iDisk?

I’ve been using Dropbox passively for the past few weeks. It works exactly as expected–you should never have to think about it. It is really nice having your files in the cloud. But the problem with having one folder in the cloud–accessible from my iMac, MacBook Pro, iPhone or iPad–is that pretty soon you want all your files in the cloud.

I started thinking about what it would take to get my whole Home folder into a Dropbox. The answer is $99 for 50GB, or $199 for 100GB, annually. But why would I pay for Dropbox when I already pay $99 a year for MobileMe?

Last month, John Gruber wrote about how he stores all his working documents on Dropbox. This month, he asked why Apple hasn’t acquired Dropbox.

iDisk used to be really buggy and crashy with Mac OS X 10.4. But now I can’t remember the last time it’s given me any trouble. I’ve been using iDisk Sync and it’s pretty handy. If I drag a file there during work, I know it’s there for me when I get home. Why am I even thinking about Dropbox?

I’m seriously asking. Try out Dropbox and/or let me know if you think it’s better than iDisk.
